Re: Life, Growing and the Law

Your race cannot be scientific with the afterlife at this time, but it is possible. At some stage, you might get there. Other species have accomplished this feat already in fact.

How could your country get considerably worse? A nuclear explosion would do it. Full scale invasion by a French/Canadian/Welsh alliance. A massive outbreak of a disease that removes all your lungs and creates gills. Just a few examples. Of course, it wouldn't be news if it wasn't shocking and awful. Having said that, occasionally an article comes up with something nice happening.

The meaning to life is to have experiences, it doesn't matter what they are. To facilitate that, we decided that one species should not become powerful and aggressive/foolish enough to destroy all the others. If humanity ends, your soul will simply reincarnate elsewhere. It's pointless to worry about such things, except where they relate to how your species is evolving.

This is exactly the problem, people don't care enough. There are exceptions, some are religious, some are scientists, even a few politicians. But they are small in number, and the world does not listen to them. Most people who are told such things realise the truth of it, then go right back to ignoring the problem.

Of course, getting rid of disease comes with its own problems. Suddenly, nobody's dying of these diseases any more, and the population goes up dramatically. Still, if people were happy with what they had, you'd still be running around naked with sticks, trying to make fire. As an intelligent species, you're constantly evolving both your physical bodies and your minds.

Well, if the law required that one be 'mature enough' before they had sex, your prisons would be even fuller than they are now. They'd be so full in fact, that more people would be in prison than out of it. Unfortunately sex is one of those things where when it comes to emotional responses, it's a trial and error thing, mostly error. The problem is too much value is assigned to it, therefore it's a really 'big thing' when it goes wrong.

Laws are repressing people for the good of society. Or at least, the good of society in the opinion of those in power. Anarchy does not often work in the physical universe, which is why sentient species realised they must have some kind of structure for society. It's certainly not the best way of doing things, but it is 'a' way.

You might be better served making a clear point of choosing a time to go to bed, setting an alarm and then going regardless of anything else. You might get more sleep that way.

Even if I could see some good things, the bad things would overshadow them so much as to make them irrelevant. I don't even really know what love is... How can you possibly care about someone else? They're just going down the whole life path (probably not getting puked on half as much as me) and doing what they want. Let them do it and sod them.

Hah, guilty about her kids. She's probably already involved in some kind of S&M thing with them.

I expect just to make my life a little worse there are a set of hitmen hired to get me if I survive in a physical form for too long. If I were to take bodyguards with me, at the last moment they'd shoot me in whatever limbs I had at the time, puke on me and leave me to die slowly and alone. No matter what I do it always ends in that kind of way...

Love and light are things that affect other people,
